Monthly Maintenance Check List
- Inspect the Frame
- Look for any signs of damage, including dents, cracks, or
- Note: Even small cracks can pose a serious safety Do not ride the bike if any cracks are found.
- Check the Spokes
- Look for any loose spokes.
- Squeeze the spokes to check their tension; they should flex slightly and return to their original position.
- If spokes are loose, tighten them using a spoke wrench (Park Tool Triple Spoke Wrench) or visit a local bike shop for wheel truing or spoke
- Examine the Forks
- Inspect the forks for any signs of loose bolts, cracks, dents, or
- Ensure the fork legs move
- Make sure your front wheel is properly aligned with the forks to avoid handling
- Assess the Gears
- Check the chain to ensure it flows smoothly around the front chainring and rear
- Inspect the teeth on both the front chainring and rear cog for wear, as grease and dirt can accumulate along their
- Inspect the Tires
- Look for any cuts, gashes, or holes in the
- Examine the tread wear. If the tires are worn down, consider replacing them before riding, as worn tires can lead to reduced
- Note: Do not ride the bike if you notice any tire
- 40-50 recommended PSI for skinny tire Murfs. 20-25 recommended PSI for fat tire
- Clean and Lubricate the Drivetrain
- Clean and degrease the chain and drivetrain components using a bike degreaser or chain cleaner and a brush.
- Re-lubricate with bicycle-specific chain lube and wipe off any
- Check for any other loosened bolts or screws on accessories and the bike itself
Tools Needed
- 5mm allen wrench: tighten handlebar, headlight, brake caliper
- 6mm allen wrench: tighten head tube
- 10mm allen: chain fastener
- 15mm wrench (helpful to have two): tighten front wheel, pedals
- Phillips head screwdriver: seat into seat tube, handlebar reflector
- Park Tool Triple Spoke Wrench
- Bike Tire Pump
